Newmarket – Get your camera ready for the 11th annual Family Day, taking place Monday, February 19th  and show everyone why you #LOVEYR.

“From small towns and rural villages to suburban neighbourhoods and city centres, York Region is a mosaic of geographical communities, each offering something unique for families,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “This year’s Family Day events promise to be some of the best yet. They of course wouldn’t be possible without the commitment of the many sponsors and volunteers who run them within the cities and towns that make up York Region.”

There are plenty of special events and scenic winter destinations throughout York Region to choose from. Whether you are looking to experience traditional Canadian winter activities, or prefer to stay warm indoors, York Region has put together a top-10 list of the Instagram-worthy go-to-locations you’ll want to visit.

  1. Arctic Adventure 2018 in the Town of Aurora: Join family, friends and neighbours at Aurora Town Park, located at Mosley and Wells Streets on Monday, February 19 between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to experience professional ice carving, winter games, skating, mini snow tubing, live entertainment, arctic golf and more.   2. Hit the slopes in the Town of Georgina: You can’t go wrong with family favourite the Recreational Outdoor Campus (ROC) in the Town of Georgina. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Family Day; enjoy a four-lane snow tube hill, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, skating and a toboggan run. For more information visit the Town of Georgina

  3. Family Fun Day in the Town of East Gwillimbury: This Family Day take part in Olympic-themed winter games, suitable for the whole family. Family Day Winterfest in the Township of King: This Family Day the Township of King invites you to enjoy activities including the annual learn-to-curl at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg, free snowshoe and cross country ski rentals at Cold Creek Conservation Area.   5. Winterfest in the City of Markham: This Family Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. experience Winterfest at Markham Museum. Visit the new Geared for Growing interactive exhibition, participate in a variety of winter games, snowshoe around the Museum’s 25-acre site, or warm up in the indoor playground.   6. Join the Town of Newmarket for Family Day fun: at the Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive) for swimming, skating, indoor sports, track, fitness centre and drop-in fitness classes for $2 each.   7. Dust off your skates in the Town of Richmond Hill: Visit the Richmond Green Skate Trail in the Town of Richmond Hill. Enjoy a free skate through 250 metres of winter wonderland, surrounded by local trees and twinkling lights all long-weekend. Don’t forget to bring your skates, as rentals are not available. Celebrate Winterfest in the City of Vaughan: The City of Vaughan will hold its 29th annual Vaughan Celebrates Winterfest event presented by TD and event sponsors CN and Tim Hortons on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Vellore Village Community Centre. Free family fun entertainment and activities include outdoor stage shows, an Official Welcome by Mayor and Members of Council, as well as midway rides and inflatables, face painting, arts and crafts, a photo booth, horse-drawn wagon rides, a free pancake breakfast, and so much more!

Family Fun Day in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville: Visit the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum and Community Centre on Family Day from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. to share some quality family time sampling fresh local maple syrup and other treats. Check out the activities in the heritage buildings. New this year, in partnership with York Regional Forest, register for free snowshoe walks at the Hollidge Tract. Registration is required for snowshoe walks.
