York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson extends condolences on additional COVID-19 related deaths in York Region

Chairment Statement Picture

“The Regional Municipality of York has been notified of two additional deaths in York Region related to COVID-19.

A male in his 80s is the Region’s third COVID-19-related death. He was a resident at Markhaven Home for Seniors in the City of Markham and passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020.

A 100-year-old female from the City of Vaughan is the Region’s fourth COVID-19-related death. She passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020. The individual was a close household contact to the individual from the City of Vaughan who was announced as the Region’s second COVID-19 related death.

On behalf of York Regional Council, I extend sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of these two individuals.

Although many continue to make great efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, this is an important reminder of the severity of the current pandemic. It remains critically important for everyone to maintain physical distancing and practice good hand washing. We must all do our part by staying home and only going out for essential trips.

We will get through this, but only if everyone does their part to protect the health and safety of everyone in our communities, especially those who are most vulnerable.”

Wayne Emmerson
