York Region Transit bus operators compete in annual skills competition

Newmarket – In advance of York Region’s 12th Annual York Region Transit (YRT) Bus Roadeo in June, members of the media are invited to attend a VIP tour of the preliminary qualifying rounds where they can speak with YRT drivers and staff, and test their skills driving a 40-foot bus through an obstacle course.

Background:

The YRT Bus Roadeo is an annual, skills and driving competition on an obstacle course between YRT bus drivers. The YRT Bus Roadeo Grand Champion will represent York Region at the 2020 American Public Transit Association (APTA) International Bus Roadeo.

The event showcases the excellent driving and customer service skills and abilities of our trained bus drivers who bring safe, friendly and reliable transit service to York Region travellers.

YRT’s Family of Services includes conventional YRT, Viva bus rapid transit, Community Bus, On-Demand and Mobility Plus services. YRT’s annual revenue ridership is over 22 million. Another 3.4 million riders are using the TTC Line 1 Subway plus 10.4 million GO Transit riders in York Region. This represents 36 million public transit trips connecting residents to where they want to go.
