York Region and York Regional Police celebrate culture of caring at fundraising campaign closing ceremonies



$701,695 raised for United Way Toronto & York Region

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police concluded their 2017 employee fundraising campaign with a $701,695 donation to United Way Toronto & York Region.

“Together with York Regional Police, York Region employees have given more than $5 million over 24 years to our communities through our annual United Way campaigns,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “York Region and United Way share many goals, including striving to improve the overall health and well-being of our communities and working to ensure everyone has the opportunity to achieve success.”

York Region and York Regional Police work hand-in-hand with United Way agencies daily to help support critical social services throughout the Region. As the demand for these services continues to grow, each dollar raised will lead to strong, life-changing results.

“York Regional Police is proud of our long-standing partnership with York Region in support of the United Way,” said York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe. “Through the continued generosity of our members, we continue to provide people in our community with the necessary social assistance and resources, when they need it most.”

This year’s United Way campaign highlights included:

  • Employee payroll donation program
  • Spring and holiday markets showcasing local vendors and artisans
  • Numerous employee-driven fundraising challenges

“Our employee campaign brings me great pride,” said York Region Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Macgregor. “Not only because it’s delivered with such heart and commitment, but because it remains the number one employee campaign in York Region for both the public and private sectors. Today’s donation to the United Way Toronto & York Region is a testament to just how much we care.”

York Region and York Regional Police’s campaign theme – #YRCARES – celebrates and acknowledges the organizations’ long-standing culture of caring and commitment to social responsibility.

“Closing ceremonies is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on and celebrate York Region’s culture of caring,” said Dino Basso, York Region Commissioner of Corporate Services and United Way Co-Chair. “With nearly 100 employee volunteersand more than 1,500 contributing financial donations, the 2017 employee United Way campaign was a tremendous success because we do care so very much.”

United Way Toronto & York Region brings a wide range of partners together to find local, community-led solutions to three community priorities: building strong communities, helping kids be all they can be and moving people from poverty to possibility. It is the largest non-governmental supporter of social services in York Region, and depends on support from organizations and community members to help ensure its success.
