York Region and York Regional Police launch 2018 employee fundraising campaign for United Way

Employees celebrate 25 years of caring and $5 million for local communities

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police 2018 employee fundraising campaign for United Way Greater Toronto is now underway and this year the campaign recognizes 25 consecutive years of giving to the local not-for-profit.

"At York Region we share a common dedication with United Way to create strong, caring and safe communities," said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. "Our commitment is supported by Regional Council and driven by our responsibility to help improve the lives of our most vulnerable residents."

Over the past 24 years, employees at York Region and York Regional Police have raised more than $5 million for United Way. In 2017 alone, employees raised $701,695 – making it York Region’s most successful  campaign to date, the top campaign for United Way in the Region and one of the top public-sector campaigns in the Greater Toronto Area.

“York Region is a great place to work for so many reasons – one of the most important being our people,” said York Region Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Macgregor. “When we work together towards a common cause, we are able to give back to the community in a significant and positive way.”

The current campaign emphasizes experiences and the Region’s culture of caring, rather than the fundraising total.

“Our campaign for United Way is about celebrating our commitment to caring and recognizing the incredible support we have in this organization,” said York Region Commissioner of Corporate Services and Campaign Co-Chair Dino Basso. “There is no doubt 2018 will be another successful year focused on the importance of giving.”

The 2018 campaign will feature:

  • An employee payroll donation program
  • Spring and holiday markets showcasing local vendors and artisans
  • Numerous employee-driven fundraising challenges
  • A live art auction featuring donated fine art and photography from local artists and photographers

York Region and York Regional Police work hand-in-hand with United Way agencies daily to help support critical social services throughout the Region. When one Regional or police service stops, a United Way-funded agency often takes over.

“The agencies funded through the United Way Greater Toronto help provide necessary social assistance and resources to members of our community who are in need,” said York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe. “We are proud of our partnership with York Region in supporting the United Way, which continues to make a difference in the communities we serve.”

Operating in more than 100 communities in Canada, each United Way raises support locally, directly responding to local needs.
