Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police celebrated the completion of the 2016 United Way employee campaign, raising $575,088, the largest amount achieved and exceeding the $480,000 campaign goal by $95,088.

“York Region has been a proud supporter of the United Way for almost 25 years,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “Every year I am inspired by the motivation and determination of all of our employees and volunteers who are committed to making York Region a better place.”

United Way Employee Campaign Wrap Up

Over the past 23 years, York Region and York Regional Police have raised more than $4.3 million to help support critical social services and strengthen communities across the Region.
“The generosity of employees, volunteers and participants is making positive change happen for our communities,” said York Regional Police Chief, Eric Jolliffe. “Together, we have worked to address Regional social issues and create a municipality where people have access to more opportunities for success.”

Staff showed their support with a three-month long corporate campaign that included unique employee-driven events, including the annual holiday craft and gift sale. “Our campaign theme Invest in People is intended to highlight the importance of community giving,” said Campaign Co-Chair Bill Hughes, York Region’s Commissioner of Finance and Regional Treasurer. “Each dollar goes a long way in supporting social programs and services across the Region.”

“The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police have once again demonstrated a tremendous understanding of what it means to play a vital role in giving back,” said Daniele Zanotti, President and CEO, United Way Toronto & York Region. “As one of the United Way’s largest employee campaigns, York Region contributes to our goal in providing long-term change in every corner of our region.”

United Way Toronto & York Region brings a wide range of partners together to find local, community-led solutions to three community priorities: helping children and youth succeed, building strong neighbourhoods and moving people from poverty to possibility.
