York Region Celebrates National Forest Week

Chairment Statement Picture

From September 20 to 26, 2020, York Region celebrates the 100th anniversary of National Forest Week.

Home to 2,300 hectares of protected land, the York Regional Forest plays a vital role in the lives of York Region residents.

Through National Forest Week, we celebrate our shared forest heritage and recognize the importance of this valuable and renewable resource. Forests provide economic, environmental, recreational and cultural value to our communities and are fundamental to our traditions, history and our future. Together, it is our shared responsibility to protect this essential natural resource and do our part to keep it clean for future generations.

Whether you live in an urban centre or in a rural area, I encourage all York Region residents to celebrate National Forest Week by taking time to enjoy this beautiful, natural endowment and appreciate the many ways forest contribute to our communities.

On behalf of York Regional Council, it is my pleasure to celebrate National Forest Week and recognize the important role healthy forests play in building a healthy future for all.
