York Region Chairman and CEO recognizes June as Seniors Month

Chairment Statement Picture

On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York it brings me great pleasure to recognize June as Seniors Month.

Seniors Month in Ontario is a time to celebrate the important contributions our older adults have made and continue to make within our communities. It also recognizes the important role communities play in keeping seniors active, engaged and learning.

This year’s theme, Stay safe, stay in touch, offers an important message about the need to keep our older population safe, yet engaged, as we respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic. This virus has impacted our senior population in disproportionate ways, and Seniors Month is a strong reminder we must do everything in our power to protect our most vulnerable residents.

Regional Council remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of our aging population through the York Region Seniors Strategy, which balances the needs of all generations while also keeping seniors healthier, supporting age-friendly communities and connecting seniors to the right services at the right time.

For the remaining month of June, our newsroom and social media channels will celebrate seniors by sharing a series of stories and resources.

On behalf of York Region’s 1.2 million residents, I wish all older adults a happy Seniors Month and thank you for the contributions towards a strong, caring, safe York Region.
