On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it gives me great pleasure to wish York Region residents a happy New Year.

As we close the book on a year unlike any other, I thank our 1.2 million residents and 54,000 businesses for your support in following public health measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. The uncertainty of a global pandemic has been difficult on us all, and your efforts to protect community health and safety has been greatly appreciated.

The start of a new year brings fresh perspective and opportunities to find common ground and shared purpose. While we continue to be in a province-wide shutdown, the approval of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines allow us to move into 2021 with cautious optimism that COVID-19 will be behind us.

Throughout this pandemic, Regional Council has remained committed to protecting the health and well-being of all who call our communities home. We also remained committed to working with all levels of government to support residents and businesses alike.

The new year also marks the 50th anniversary of The Regional Municipality of York. Since 1971, York Region has worked hard to increase economic prosperity, support community health, safety and well-being, build sustainable communities, protect the environment and deliver trusted and efficient programs and services.

In the year ahead, we will continue to focus on the priorities and issues that matter most to our residents by investing in key programs and infrastructure projects critical to the economic recovery of our Region.

Looking ahead at the year to come, I wish each and every York Region resident all the best for a happy and healthy 2021.

Happy New Year!
