York Region honours lives lost to COVID-19

Chairment Statement Picture

York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York today held a moment of silence for the 329 York Region residents who have sadly lost their lives to COVID-19 in 2020.

Protecting the health and safety of York Region’s residents continues to be the top priority of Regional Council and York Region Public Health this past year.

While efforts continue to focus on slowing the spread of this virus in our communities, each life lost is a stark reminder of the severity of this pandemic. COVID-19 has impacted residents of all ages, including healthy individuals with no pre-existing health conditions.

As we move into the holiday season, residents across York Region are reminded of the critical importance of following public health measures and limiting contacts to those in the immediate household. Public health measures are in place to protect residents and are such a small sacrifice in our collective efforts to get through this second wave.

On behalf of York Regional Council and York Region’s 1.2 million residents, our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those who have lost their lives to COVID-19. We honour each one of these individuals by reaffirming our commitment to protecting the health and safety of all who live and work in our communities.
