York Region makes learning a splash with 20th annual Children’s Water Festival

Newmarket – For 20 years York Region has been educating children about the importance of water conservation at its annual York Children’s Water Festival. This year nearly 4,000 Grade 4 students from across York Region will participate.

The opening ceremony will include a poetry reading by Alok Karunaratne, a Grade 4 contest winner from Michael Cranny Public School in the City of Vaughan.

The York Children’s Water Festival is a five-day event where students learn the importance of a clean water supply, develop respect for a healthy environment and make a commitment to the sustainable use of natural resources. The festival promotes hands-on learning away from a traditional classroom setting.

The festival is a component of York Region’s Water for Tomorrow program, organized in partnership with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. For more information on the Region’s water conservation initiatives, visit
