York Region releases year-three progress report on Strategic Plan



More than 90 per cent of the plan’s key performance measures on track

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York released its third-year progress report on the 2015 to 2019 Strategic Plan which shows the Region has made significant progress on its four-year plan. More than 90 per cent of the key performance measures associated with this plan are progressing in the desired direction.

“The progress the Region continues to make in achieving the goals and objectives in this strategic plan is impressive,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “These successes demonstrate our collaborative efforts and commitment to ensuring York Region remains an excellent place to live, work and play.”

The 2015 to 2019 Strategic Plan provides a detailed course of action over the term of Council. Within the following four strategic result areas, 2017 accomplishments include:

  • Economic Vitality – Strengthen the Region’s economy
    • Increasing the percentage of business engagements and contributing to the increase of local job growth; outpacing provincial and national averages
  • Healthy Communities – Support community health and well-being
    • Maintaining the percentage of samples that meet Ontario drinking water standard and contributing to 99.96 per cent compliance rate in 2017
  • Sustainable Environment – Manage environmentally sustainable growth
    • Increasing transit ridership and welcoming the TTC subway extension in York Region, the first time the TTC has extended beyond the City of Toronto border
  • Good Government – Provide responsive and efficient public service
    • Increasing the number of data sets available online and contributing to York Region’s Open Data program

In 2015, York Region released its 2015 to 2019 Strategic Plan – From Vision to Results. The plan is tracked, measured and reported annually to ensure progress is made on Council’s priorities. “Maintaining a high quality of life in York Region over the long term requires strategic focus,” said Town of Richmond Hill Mayor David Barrow, Chair of Finance and Administration. “This plan outlines the targets we continue to strive for in our work towards Vision 2051.”
