Bayview Avenue Transportation Improvements
December 23, 2020
Improving Bayview Avenue

To create a connected transportation network and ensure Regional roads are properly maintained, improvements are being made to Bayview Avenue between Bloomington Road and Vandorf Sideroad in the Town of Aurora. Construction commenced September 2019 and is anticipated to be completed in January 2021.
August 17, 2020 update: Construction was put on hold on May 11, 2020 due to Belted Kingfisher and Northern Rough-winged Swallows, which are birds protected under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, that were nesting in the earth slopes beside a section of the multi-use path. The birds have now left their nests and construction can resume, starting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 and is anticipated to be completed in January 2021.
Once completed in January 2021, improvements will:
- Make cycling and walking more desirable in this neighbourhood by creating a 2.2 kilometre asphalt Lake to Lake Cycling Route and Walking Trail on the west side of Bayview Avenue from Bloomington Road to Vandorf Sideroad (see description below). This offers cyclists and pedestrians a comfortable and safe way to explore York Region using a dedicated trail
- Create a smoother commuter experience for motorists by repaving Bayview Avenue
- Enhance intersection accessibility at Vandorf Sideroad by installing new pedestrian signals, ladder crosswalks, a gradual slope, and a tactile walking surface that is detectable under foot for pedestrians with low or no vision
Construction update
Remaining work includes:
- Installing a handrail on the multi-use path
We recognize construction can be disruptive and we thank you for your patience and understanding. This work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or delays related to COVID-19 Public Health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

Safety
Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed when travelling through the construction area. Please contact us if you have any safety concerns in and around the construction site.
To help manage your daily commutes during construction, travellers can plan their route in advance by using traffic and
navigation tools. York Region provides real-time traffic and road information in open data, used by many app developers.
