Bayview project enhances travel and environment

Bayview Corridor Project

The improvements to Bayview Avenue and 19th Avenue in the City of Richmond Hill not only improved the way people travel, but also the wildlife and brook trout habitat in the newly transformed 10.75 acres of land in the area.

A naturalized buffer area, including a new stream channel, was constructed during the widening of Bayview Avenue, to four lanes, from Elgin Mills Road to Stouffville Road. The widening of the road allowed improved traffic flow, enhanced rail crossing and new street lighting.

Travellers can also take advantage of the scenery with the new multi-use path that supports pedestrians and cycling.

Recently, York Region has been recognized with four awards for this project, including Transportation Association of Canada: Environmental Achievement Award and American Public Works Association: Public Works Projects of Year Award, Ontario Public Works Association: Project of the Year Award and Professional Engineers Ontario: Project of the Year Award
