Celebrate agriculture in York Region

Ontario Agriculture Week is a time to celebrate and thank the hardworking farmers across our province and in York Region. From keeping food on our plates and supporting our local economy, the agricultural sector plays a vital role in supporting our communities.

Home to more than 700 farm-based businesses, York Region farmers produce everything from fruits, vegetables, meats and eggs to maple syrup, honey and wine. An additional 270 food and beverage manufacturers process and package locally sourced food that is sold to restaurants and retailers in York Region and beyond.

To recognize this special week, we’ll be sharing stories from local farms, starting with Hiveshare, located in the Town of Georgina. You can read the spotlight here and be sure to stay tuned to social media as we release more over the coming days.

As we move further into the harvest season, residents are reminded of the important role local food plays in our economy, our communities and our families – and are encouraged to support our local agriculture and agri-food sector by shopping for locally grown and produced products.

You can learn more about local food and York Region’s ongoing support of our agriculture and agri-food sector at york.ca/agrifood.
