York Region delivers a variety of programs to support families with young children. Beginning in 2018, York Region is expected to become responsible for the management of Ontario Early Years Centres in York Region. The changes are part of the Ministry of Education’s journey towards modernizing and integrating early years programs and services in Ontario.

York Region has over 71,000 children aged 0-6 years of age, representing 6.9% per cent of the Region’s total population. In 2016-2017, more than 104,000 visits were made by children to child and family programs in York Region. Parents and caregivers accounted for an additional 98,000 visits during the same time frame.

The new enhanced centres will offer quality programs and services from children ages 0 to six years of age, parents and caregivers.  Throughout 2018, York Region will engage parents, caregivers, community partners and service providers for input on how to enhance current child and family programs in York Region.
