Don’t suffer the consequences: Pay your fines today
April 16, 2019

Has a Provincial Offences fine been sitting in your wallet for years? Did you forget about the fine all together? Better yet, did your dog eat your fine notice?
Unfortunately there is no excuse for failing to pay a Provincial Offences Act (POA) fine… but there are consequences. In fact, depending on the type of offence, the consequences of not paying your fine can include:
- Paying additional court costs
- Suspending your driver’s licence
- Inability to renew licence plate sticker
- Inability to renew drivers licence
- Notifying a credit reporting agency
- Listing fines to a collection agency
- Garnishing wages
- Adding fine amounts to property tax bills
- Registering a lien against property
Fines are court orders and do not have an expiry date. This means they stay with you until they are paid in full and at any time the court can enforce these consequences.
Avoid losing your licence or putting your credit rating at risk by paying default fines online at paytickets.ca, in person at any court location, or by mail.
If you are having trouble navigating the process or can’t make your payment in full, York Region Court Services is here to help. Learn more at york.ca/courts or contact the Courts Collection Team at 1-877-331-3309 ext. 73337
