As the fall temperatures dip, there is something about the cool, crisp air that makes us want to bundle up and explore the great outdoors. There are plenty of ways to York Region and all it has to offer. From lush forests where you can enjoy the changing leaves to pumpkin patches galore, shopping for deals and theme park thrills, gourmet treats and more, there’s no shortage of places to go and things to do right here in your own backyard.

Check out these five staycation ideas that are sure keep you busy this weekend:

  1. Choose your own adventure in the York Regional Forest. With over 120 kilometers of free, public trails, the York Regional Forest is open year-round and has 2,300 hectares of protected land. How many birds can you spot? Collect some leaves, pinecones and acorns and get crafty with some art projects. The possibilities are endless with nature!
  2. Hop on a YRT bus, head down Yonge Street and explore all the sights there are to see. From great restaurants and boutique shops to quaint coffee shops and bustling streets, the possibilities for excitement are endless.
  3. Try the new TTC Line 1 subway extension and shop ‘till you drop at Vaughan Mills, capped off by a screaming good time at Canada’s Wonderland where all things spooky are happening all weekend.
  4. Grab your bike, put on your helmet and discover over 1,000 kilometers of York Region’s bike trails. Visit the Cycling pgae for cycling events, routes, maps and cycling safety information.
  5. Aren’t festivals so much fun in the fall? Visit Experience York Region or read the event and festivals guide for what is happening all around York Region and find the one that appeals to you.

There are so many reasons to #loveyr! Upload your staycation pics and use the hashtag #loveyr to share them with us. We can’t wait to see the types of adventures you go on.
