Honouring 1st anniversary of Ukraine flight 752 crash

Today is the first anniversary of the tragic crash of Ukraine International Airlines flight 752, which claimed the lives of 176 people. In honour and remembrance of the lives lost, flags at York Region’s Administrative Centre have been lowered to half-mast.

In a statement, York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson offers his condolences on behalf of York Regional Council.

The Regional Municipality of York remembers the 176 lives lost, including 57 Canadians, 26 York Region residents and a member of our York Region family, Bahareh Karami, who continues to be remembered for her undeniable spirit and sense of enthusiasm.

The victims of this horrific event included parents, young children, professionals, students and newlyweds, who had their lives tragically cut short. Although COVID-19 has overshadowed most of 2020, the significant loss of life on Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 has not been forgotten.

York Region offers its deepest condolences to all family, friends and loved ones affected by this tragedy and offer continued support as they grieve this unimaginable loss.
