Construction Update

Construction resumed mid-April 2020 on Weston Road and King Road after a winter shutdown. The road widening work on the south side of King Road has been completed and traffic was shifted to the newly constructed lanes in late-July 2020. Localized utility relocations are required near the King Road and Weston Road intersection to complete the remaining road features: installation of the retaining walls, constructing the road side slopes and drainage channels in the vicinity of the intersection. Utility relocations will continue on the north side of the road through late August to early September. Once complete, construction will continue on the north side of King Road, anticipated to be completed by the end of 2020.

Remaining work includes:

  • Work on the north side of King Road, including:
    • Road widening
    • Installation of retaining walls
    • Constructing the road side slopes and drainage channels for water flow
  • Installation of permanent traffic signals at King Road and Weston Road
  • Restoring the boulevards and construction area
  • Final asphalt paving on King Road and Weston Road

During construction, the intersection will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained, however, temporary lane closures may be required Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

As with all road projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or delays related to COVID-19 Public Health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.
