Transforming Leslie Street

City of Richmond Hill
The Regional Municipality of York is investing in building a safe, efficient and reliable Regional transportation network for all users. Improvements continue on Leslie Street from Elgin Mills Road to 19th Avenue to accommodate growth and improve traffic flow.
Construction Update
Since work began in fall 2019, the following improvements have been completed:
- Shifted traffic onto the newly constructed lanes on the east side of Leslie Street and work began on the west side
- Reconstructed McCague Avenue to bring it in line with the new Leslie Street
- Installed two large culverts on Leslie Street that convey tributaries of the Rouge River
- Installed concrete storage tanks to collect storm water runoff during large storms
- Installed catch basins and a storm sewer system on the east side of Leslie Street to drain the road
Over the next couple of months, crews will:
- Complete the intersection work at Leslie Street and John Birchall Road, including paving work and activating the permanent traffic signals
- Continue work on the west side of Leslie Street, including:
- Installing the new road base for the southbound lanes
- Continuing storm sewer work
- Completing the installation of the culverts
- Installing street lights
Leslie Street will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained, however, temporary lane reductions may be required Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
