The Regional Municipality of York is investing in building a safe, effi cient and reliable Regional transportation network for all users. On behalf of the City of Vaughan, we are making improvements to the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive at Vaughan City Hall.

Construction start: September 2020  |  Anticipated completion: December 2020

We care about your community and are committed to delivering transportation improvements safely, while minimizing disruptions as best as possible. We’re building, reconstructing and repairing Regional roads for you, your community and the future of the City of Vaughan.

Improvements include:

  • Widening the south side of Major Mackenzie Drive to facilitate the installation of a dedicated westbound left-turn lane, as well as a dedicated eastbound right-turn lane into City Hall
  • Widening and reconstructing the City Hall entrance
  • Installing new traffi c signals to current standards
  • Installing a landscaped boulevard on the south side of the road within the project limits
  • Upgrading the existing storm sewer system within the project limits

Impacts to traffic:

  • Lane closures may be required to facilitate work throughout the project
  • Night work may be required over a couple of nights for paving, near the end of construction

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of this project?

  • There are currently no dedicated turning lanes in front of Vaughan City Hall, making it difficult for residents and employees to access the building. Installing dedicated turning lanes will make access to the property easier, while reducing traffic impediments in both directions along Major Mackenzie Drive

Are there any lane closures or reductions associated with this project?

  • Lane closures may be required to facilitate work throughout the project

Will there be any night work?

  • Night work may be required over a couple of nights for paving, near the end of construction

Can pedestrians and cyclists still use the road?

  • Yes, the sidewalk on the north side of Major Mackenzie Drive will be maintained throughout construction

Are any bus shelters or transit stops being relocated during construction?

  • Transit stops may be relocated during construction and signs will be placed on the street to notify pedestrians of the new locations
  • Bus shelters and waste units may also be temporarily removed
