The Regional Municipality of York is constructing a new bridge on McCowan Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury. This news item provides an update on this project.

McCowan Road Closure

McCowan Road is closed between Queensville Sideroad and Holborn Road to remove the old bridge structure and build a new bridge. Construction is expected to be completed and the road scheduled to re-open on Friday, December 22, 2017.

Local access is being maintained to properties located within the closed section of McCowan Road throughout construction. York Region will continue to make every effort to minimize disruption. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Construction Update

To meet current design standards, environmental requirements and future needs, the new bridge will be longer, wider and higher than the existing bridge. To accommodate for the increased height requirements, a section of road on both sides of the bridge will be elevated.

The old bridge has been removed and construction of the new bridge is proceeding as planned. Construction over the next few months includes:

• Pouring concrete for the bridge deck
• Waterproofing and paving
• Reconstructing the road on either side of the bridge
• Installing the guiderail

Safety

Safety is a top priority on all Regional construction sites. Please contact us if you observe any unsafe issues in and around the construction site.

Motorists are advised to reduce their speed through the construction area.
