Microtunnelling Along Pearson Street YDSS Forcemain Twinning

Notice of Construction In the Town of Newmarket

Stay IN the Know about Traffic and Trail Impacts

York Region is making improvements to our wastewater system. Work is occurring through the Town of Newmarket for the Forcemain Twinning Project.

The connection between the Bogart Creek Pumping Station at 319 Hamilton Street to the forcemain at Fairy Lake Park was originally going to be built using an open-cut construction method. This method would have required temporary closures of both Pearson Street and Cotter Street.

Through rigorous planning and re-engineering, the work will be completed using microtunnelling methods. This means a microtunnelling machine will install the forcemain pipe underground with minimal disturbance to the residents on Pearson Street and Cotter Street.

In October, crews will begin the microtunnelling work to install the forcemain pipe between the Bogart Creek Pumping Station and the forcemain compound at Fairy Lake Park. The microtunnelling machine will run continuously 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, for the remainder of the year. During overnight work, every effort to minimize disruptions will be made including installing sound insulating walls, redirecting and lowering night time light and no overnight truck traffic.

Microtunnelling route map

To accommodate the microtunnelling method, a small portion of College Manor Park beside the soccer field, will be used as a construction staging area. This is required to store the pipe that will connect the Bogart Creek Pumping Station to the forcemain.

Trucks will use College Manor Drive to deliver equipment, pipe and materials to the worksite at College Manor Park. While the work is ongoing, a section of College Manor Park and the local trail will be impacted.

Impacts to College Manor Park Map

When: October, 2019 to January, 2020

What can you expect?

  • The portion of College Manor Park used as a construction staging area will be fenced off for public safety
  • Staff will be on site to direct pedestrians and park users while the work is happening; the trail will be open during the evening and weekends
  • College Manor Drive will remain open with temporary lane restrictions
  • There will be additional construction-related traffic on College Manor Drive; staff will be on site to help with the movement of traffic
  • There is no impact to your water or wastewater services
  • When the work is completed, the park and trail will be fully restored

York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work.

Safety is a priority for York Region; please slow down when travelling through the forcemain twinning construction areas. As with all construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other conditions.
