Step up to the plate! Canada has a new food guide!

March is Nutrition Month! Are you ready to Unlock the Potential of Food using the new Canada’s Food Guide?

On January 22, Health Canada released the much anticipated Canada’s Food Guide. It shows a plate consisting of half vegetables and fruit, one quarter for whole grains and one quarter for proteins.

With diet being a risk factor contributing to chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, the new food guide plays a critical role in helping Canadians make healthy food choices. The guide acknowledges how we eat (e.g. enjoying our food and eating meals with others) is just as important as what we eat. The food guide also encourages us to eat foods that are better for us and our planet by focusing on vegetables and fruit, whole grain foods and plant-based foods.

Canada’s Food Guide Healthy Eating Recommendations:

Healthy eating is more than the foods you eat. It is also about where, when, why and how you eat.

Make it a habit to eat a variety of healthy food choices each day:
