The Lendery at the Newmarket Public Library is now open!

Newmarket Public Library Lendery

The Regional Municipality of York, the Newmarket Public Library and NewMakeIt launched York Region’s second Lendery at the Newmarket Library at 438 Park Avenue in the Town of Newmarket.

A Lendery is an area inside the library that houses items you can sign out in addition to books. It’s a great way to sign out items you want to try or need at the moment but don’t need to own. Some of these items include sports equipment, tools and kitchen appliances.

Lendery items are accessible to everyone in the community. There are 56 unique items currently available to borrow with more items being collected through ongoing donations. Anyone with a Newmarket Public Library card can borrow items from the Lendery. A Public Library card is free to anyone that lives, works, attends school or owns property in the Town of Newmarket or York Region.

By borrowing items instead of purchasing them, the Lendery aims to reduce the environmental impacts related to production, transport and disposal into our waste system.

The Lendery is unique to York Region and was developed in partnership with the Newmarket Public Library and NewMakeIt, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping entrepreneurs, inventors, makers and artists achieve their goals cost-effectively.

The first Lendery opened in July 2019 at the Milliken Mills Library in the City of Markham and has more than 50 items available. A third location is scheduled to open at the Pierre Burton Resource Library in the City of Vaughan in November 2020.

Donate to the Lendery
The Lenderies at Milliken Mills Library and the Newmarket Public Library are accepting donations at any time. Please call ahead to offer your item.

The Pierre Burton Resource Library will be hosting donation drives in the spring to help build their inventory. To learn more about the Lendery or how to donate your items, please visit york.ca/lendery.
