Paramedics recognized for their service

Awards were presented at the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs (OAPC) Awards and Honours Gala on September 20, 2018

York Region Paramedics are dedicated professionals who deliver exceptional service in the performance of their duties. Nine paramedics were recently honoured for the work they do in providing care to residents.

2018 Governor General of Canada Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal

  • Chris Spearen, Acting Chief and General Manager
  • Bill Nastos, Superintendent/Supervisor
  • Gary Fineberg, Platoon Leader
  • Richard McTeer, Advanced Care Paramedic
  • David Smith, Primary Care Paramedic

These awards were presented at the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs (OAPC) Awards and Honours Gala on September 20, 2018. This medal is one of the highest honours a paramedic can receive. It is granted to paramedics who have completed 20 years of exemplary service, which includes at least 10 years of work in which there may have been some level of risk.

McNally Award Medal in Recognition of Career Accomplishments

  • Mitchell Lohnert, Advanced Care Paramedic

Advanced Care Paramedic Lohnert received the McNally award at OAPC Awards and Honours Gala for his role in going above and beyond during an emergency call. This is the highest accolade that the OAPC can bestow upon a paramedic for bravery in the line of duty.

2018 First Bar on the Governor General of Canada Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal

  • Linda Bond, Advanced Care Paramedic

The bars, which show a stylized maple leaf, are awarded to paramedics for 30, 40 and 50 years of service to their communities.

These awards were presented at the Governor General’s Emergency Medical Service Exemplary Awards Ceremony at Queen’s Park in Toronto on November 28, 2018.

Congratulations to all of the award winners for their incredible work and commitment to York Region’s residents and communities.
