There are various ways of limiting the spread of COVID-19 and preventing future outbreaks. From wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, staying home when you are sick to frequent handwashing; all of these prevention measures make a difference.

You can add another layer of protection by downloading the free COVID Alert App, which lets you know if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19.

How does the COVID-19 Alert App work?

With the app, you get a notification if you may have been exposed to COVID-19, get advice on what to do next and tell nearby app users if you test positive for COVID-19, all without sharing any personal information. The app uses Bluetooth technology to exchange random codes with nearby phones. Every day, the app checks a list of random codes from people who tell the app they have tested positive. If you've been near one of those codes in the past 14 days, you'll get a notification on your phone.

The app runs in the background and does not interrupt your activities. Whenever you're near someone else with COVID Alert, both phones exchange random codes every five minutes. The random codes change often and cannot be used to identify you.

What about my privacy?

COVID Alert does not use GPS or track your location. It has no way of knowing your location, your name or address, phone contacts, health information nor the health information of anyone you're near. Nobody will get any information about you or the time you were near them. The app does not collect, store or access any if your personal data or health information.

How can I download the COVID-19 Alert App?

The app is available for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).

The more people who use it, the more effective it will be in helping to protect individuals and our communities.
