Taking Inclusion to the World Stage

Estrella Merlos, Associate Director CIFAL Global Network; Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson, Lina Bigioni, Chief of Staff to York Region Chairman; Bruce Macgregor, CAO
On February 5, 2019, representatives from York Region, York Regional Police and York University attended the World Interfaith Harmony Week Interfaith Dialogue at the United Nations’ New York Headquarters.

Since 2010, the United Nations Interfaith Dialogue has served as a platform to raise public awareness and identify ways in which different faiths can contribute towards building inclusive communities. As part of our ongoing partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) York Region and York Regional Police were invited to New York to present the Inclusion Charter for York Region as a model for building social cohesion.

Endorsed by York Regional Council in June 2018, the Inclusion Charter has been recognized by the United Nations as a leading practice model communities around the world can use to become more inclusive.
