Tips for visiting a place of worship, weddings or events

The Stage 2 provincial re-opening for York Region residents is welcomed news for anyone wishing to celebrate their faith, and attend other gatherings such as weddings and funerals. Effective Friday, June 19, places of worship, indoor weddings and funeral ceremonies are permitted with strict guidelines for continued COVID-19 prevention precautions.

In Stage 2, these venues will need to follow physical distancing measures of at least 2-metres, from people not from the same household or 10-person social circle, and allow no more than 30% of the venue’s capacity. Wedding and funeral ceremonies taking place outdoors will be limited to 50 attendees.

Whether you are attending an indoor or outdoor ceremony, remember to follow proper health and safety practices. This includes physical distancing, wearing a 2-layer face covering where physical distancing is not possible, and practicing proper hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if water is not available.

For wedding or funeral receptions, the maximum number of people permitted to attend remains at 10 people.

As restrictions begin to ease, families and residents will be able to enjoy more of the activities they did prior to COVID-19. However, we know the fight against COVID-19 is not over. It is essential we all continue to do our part to keep each other, our families and our communities safe.
