Why York Region is a popular destination for millennials

Happy young woman

Since the opening of the Line 1 subway extension travelling to York Region has become a more viable option for millennials. Today a trip from Union Station to Vaughan Metropolitan Station only takes an average of 43 minutes. This is the same as the trip from Union to the Junction and faster than the trip from High Park to Union.

York Region’s provincially designated Urban Growth Centres located in Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan and Newmarket are hubs for economic activity with employment growth up 4.3 per cent in 2017. These destinations of choice currently house most of the jobs in the Region. More than just office buildings these transit-friendly communities are complete with a mix of housing options and amenities, making them welcoming homes for millennials – many of whom choose to work and live here. In fact, over the last four year more than 18,000 condos have been sold in York Region, second only to the City of Toronto.
There is a great selection of festivals across the communities for residents to enjoy and let’s not forget the outdoor activities. The nightlife provides a great selection of restaurants and one of the largest nightclubs in the GTA.

For youth with a passion for science, technology or engineering, York Region offers the highest concentration of technology companies in Canada with 4,300 plus Information Communications Technology (ICT) companies to choose from. Millennials looking to gain experience with a global company can connect with an estimated 500 local subsidiaries or operations of foreign companies located in the Region.
