Improving Yonge Street

Photo Intersection Yong eIndustrial Parkway South Aurora.

The Regional Municipality of York is investing in building a safe, efficient and reliable Regional transportation network for
all users. Improvements to Yonge Street between Henderson Drive and Industrial Parkway South in the Town of Aurora will
commence this spring to improve the conditions of the roadway to provide safer travel for all users.

For over a decade, sinkholes have been forming along Yonge Street between 100 metres south of Henderson Drive
and Industrial Parkway South. Since 2014, remedial works have been conducted to repair the roadway as sinkholes
were re-emerging. Despite these repairs, sinkholes continue to develop along the corridor and the roadway is in need of repair. Construction will start in May and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2020.

In partnership with the Town of Aurora, we will be improving the roadway by:
  • Reconstructing the road by installing an underground piping system that will help funnel groundwater away from the road and into a storm sewer
  • Installing and replacing storm sewers
  • Installing a watermain
  • Repaving the road with concrete and asphalt pavement
