York Region Celebrates Canadian Agriculture Day
February 12, 2019

Canada’s Agriculture Day is a time to celebrate and recognize the importance of agriculture in our communities and create a closer connection between where food comes from and the people who produce it.
York Region is home to a vibrant agri-food cluster, with more than 700 farm-based businesses and 270 food and beverage manufacturers and distributors that contribute to the Region’s economic vitality and unique agricultural history. The broader agri-food sector in York Region, everything from farms to processors and grocery stores, provides approximately 57,000 jobs and generates an economic impact of more than $6 billion.
Supporting the farming community remains a priority for York Regional Council. Since 2001, The York Region Agricultural Advisory Liaison Group has been working to support the industry and develop the Agriculture and Agri-Food Strategy that Council endorsed in September 2017. This strategy provides direction for the long-term growth of the sector and guides policy development and initiatives.
York Region recognizes the importance of our agri-food industry and our local farms, and we remain committed to strengthening this vital sector.
