York Region Enters Stage 3 of Re-opening

Wondering what you can do as York Region enters Stage 3 this Friday, July 24?

What can I do in stage 3

The Provincial government has given York Region approval to enter Stage 3 of re-opening but what exactly does that mean?

It means nearly all businesses and public spaces can gradually re-open with public health and workplace safety restrictions in place to keep everyone safe. Some higher-risk venues and activities remain closed until they can safely resume operations.

COVID-19 remains active in our community and residents are reminded to continue to protect themselves and their families while venturing out in the community.

Ontarians are still required to maintain physical distancing of 2-metres with people from outside your household or social circle.

While more businesses and activities are now permitted in Stage 3, it may take service providers, businesses and facilities time to revise operations to adhere to new provincial guidelines. This means not all may be open come July 24.

Please check with your local city or town for information about recreation activities and re-opening of outdoor playgrounds and play structures in local parks.

In Stage 3, some high-risk places and activities cannot open due to likelihood of large crowds congregating, difficulties with physical distancing or challenges maintaining proper cleaning and sanitation required to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Stage 3 means residents can:

Gather indoors and outdoors with increased limits with physical distancing*:

• Indoor gatherings can now include a maximum of 50 people

• Outdoor gathering and now include a maximum of 100 people

Use personal care services that tend to a customer’s face (facials, ear piercing, eyebrow grooming, eyelash extensions)

Enjoy outdoor playgrounds and play structures

Participate in recreational courses and instruction such as music and language lessons and tutoring

Resume indoor recreational activities such as bowling alleys and escape rooms

Enjoy indoor dining-in at restaurants and bars

Residents are unable visit or participate in:

Visit amusement parks and water parks

Buffet-style food services

Dancing at restaurants and bars, other than by performers hired by the establishment who follow specific requirements

Overnight stays at camps for children

Private karaoke rooms

Prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports

Saunas, steam rooms, bath houses and oxygen bars

Table games at casinos and gaming establishments

* Limits apply to higher risk settings and activities where people congregate such as organized or spontaneous indoor and outdoor events and social gatherings (parties, fundraisers, fairs, weddings and funeral receptions), casinos, bingo halls, gaming establishments, concerts and live shows, convention centres, meeting or event spaces and facilities for sports and recreational fitness activities. The gathering limits also apply to festivals, recreational attractions, movie theatres, real estate open houses, sporting events and tour and guide services.

Gathering limits do not apply to settings such as beaches, parks, restaurants and bars, but measures to enable physical distancing may limit capacity at any given time.

York Region thanks residents, businesses and the community for their effort in slowing the spread of COVID-19, which has resulted in the successful transition from Stage 2 to Stage 3.

If you are ill or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, stay home or seek assessment at one of the three  York Region assessment centres.
