Emergency and Transitional Housing

If you are homeless or fleeing an abusive situation, an emergency housing facility can provide you with temporary housing and support.

To be eligible to stay, you must meet the requirements of the particular facility.

Winter Shelters

Emergency overnight accommodations are open annually from November to late March/early April.

Inn from the Cold

Located in Newmarket, Inn from the Cold provides emergency accommodation in 30 beds and services to men and women. Services include meals, laundry and clothing. Employment programs and a weekly community meal program are also offered.

Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold

Located within faith organizations across southern York Region, Out of the Cold provides emergency accommodation in 30 beds at rotating sites. Services are available for men and women and include meals, clothing, transportation services, medical assistance, mental health and addiction supports, and referrals for housing, employment and income supports. A community meal program is also offered.

Emergency Housing use in York Region

The Regional Municipality of York partners with the Federal Government along with other municipalities across Canada to collect emergency housing data through the Homelessness Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS).
