The Regional Municipality Of York

York Region is a place where 1.2 million residents and 54,000 businesses (employing 650,000 people) are proud to call home. However, not everyone has a home or is able to to make ends meet. As the cost of living rises, low to moderate income households are having trouble keeping up. The reality is that people in our community need support. York Region is working with various partners to provide more housing options for all residents, despite income levels.

York Region helps residents find affordable and subsidized housing units.

York Region manages a centralized waiting list for subsidized rental housing units available to eligible residents.

If you are homeless or fleeing an abusive situation, emergency shelters or transition homes can provide you with temporary housing.

The Home Repair Program offers grants to eligible low and moderate income homeowners who need modifications to make their homes accessible or critical repairs to improve home safety.

Subsidized housing is available in buildings throughout York Region. Many locations that offer subsidized housing also have units available at market value (market-rent).

York Region’s 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan will increase the supply of affordable and rental housing, help people find and keep housing and strengthen the housing and homelessness system.

Housing York Inc. offers market rent and subsidized housing to residents in York Region.

Housing York promotes effective communication with tenants by providing newsletters, bulletins, comment cards, tenant surveys and tenant meetings.

Housing with supports (formerly domiciliary hostels) offers supervised living for people with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities and the frail elderly.
