The Regional Municipality Of York

Ontario Works is a province-wide assistance program to help people in need. Ontario Works can help residents find employment and assist with basic living costs until they become self-sufficient.

If you have had your financial assistance refused, cancelled, reduced or put on hold, you will be sent a letter that tells you why the decision was made. If you disagree with a decision, you can request an internal review.

In York Region, residents can get Employment and Financial Support through a program called Ontario Works. Applications can be made online or by phone.

Young parents who are receiving Ontario Works benefits can get extra assistance through the Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) program.

York Region residents can visit an Employment Resource Centre to use computers, phones and other resources like Job Search Handbook to apply for jobs across York Region.

Ontario Works provides monthly financial assistance to cover basic needs like food and housing costs.

When applicants are accepted to the Ontario Works program, they will receive monthly benefits and can check on their payments using an interactive phone system.

Clients receiving financial assistance through Ontario Works have to participate in employment activities to get their monthly allowance.
