The Regional Municipality of York has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for improvements to Dufferin Street between Langstaff Road and Teston Road in the City of Vaughan. The planned road improvements will help address existing and future traffic demands within the study area. The EA Study identified the following recommendations for Dufferin Street:

  • Widen to six lanes from Langstaff Road to Marc Santi Boulevard, located north of Rutherford Road
  • Widen to four lanes from Marc Santi Boulevard to Teston Road
  • Construct cycling facilities and sidewalks on both sides of Dufferin Street

Environmental Study Report

York Region intends to proceed with design and construction of the project following completion of the EA Study, and has prepared an Environmental Study Report (ESR) documenting the study process, consultation efforts and recommended plan. The Notice of Study Completion places the ESR on public record for a 30-day public review period ending May 31, 2019.

Project Background

The EA study will identify possible improvements to the traffic operations on Dufferin Street and investigate the current and future transportation needs for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists along this corridor.

Dufferin Street is proposed to be widened to 6 lanes from Langstaff Road to Rutherford Road, and to 4 lanes from Major Mackenzie Drive to Teston Road. The study of the section from Rutherford Road to Major Mackenzie Drive is still underway. This project is intended to:

  • Increase network accessibility and flexibility
  • Reduce delays for residents and businesses
  • Relieve and diffuse demands on arterial roads
  • Support access to an efficient transit network
  • Support options for pedestrians and active transportation
  • Increase efficiency of the transportation network
