Intersection Improvements

In partnership with the City of Vaughan, we are improving the intersection on Major Mackenzie Drive into City Hall. Improvements include:

  • Upgrading the traffic signals to comply with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements
  • Widening Major Mackenzie Drive to the south to facilitate the installation of a dedicated westbound left-turn lane, as well as a dedicated eastbound right-turn lane into City Hall
  • New landscaped boulevard on the south side of the road within the project limits
  • Re-profiling the ramp into the City Hall parking lot
  • Upgrading the existing storm sewer system within the project limits

What are the benefits of this project?

  • There are currently no dedicated turning lanes in front of Vaughan City Hall, making it difficult for residents and employees to access the building. Installing dedicated turning lanes will make access to the property easier, while reducing traffic impediments in both directions along Major Mackenzie Drive

Are there any lane closures or reductions associated with this project?

  • Off-peak lane reductions will be required between 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Can pedestrians and cyclists still use the road?

  • Yes, the sidewalk on the north side of Major Mackenzie Drive will be maintained throughout construction

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area.

Travellers are encouraged to use traffic and navigation tools. York Region provides real-time traffic and road information in open data, used by many apps.
