The York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. on October 5, 2017.


The following were in attendance:

1. A Look into the Water Reclamation Centre – First of Its Kind in Canada


Committee received the presentation by Thomas Casher, Deputy Project Manager & Technical Lead, GHD, Shirley Blumberg, Lead Architect, KPMB and Brian Melcher, Architect, KPMB.

2. York Region's Response to the Review of the Accessibility Transportation Standards 


Committee received the communication from Katherine Chislett, Commissioner of Community and Health Services and Paul Jankowski, Commissioner of Transportation Services dated July 31, 2017.


Other Business


3. Jessica Walters, Senior Policy Analyst, Accessibility


Committee was introduced to a new staff member on the Accessibility team.  Jessica Walters, Senior Policy Analyst, Community and Health Services will be working on the implementation of York Region’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as accessibility initiatives.


4. Update on Accessibility Activities


Committee received an update from Lois Davies, Manager, Social Policy and Accessibility, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services, as follows:


1. A timeline overview of past and ongoing reviews of the AODA

2. The Honourable Kent Hehr is the new Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities

3. There will be a celebration for the opening of a fully accessible park on October 10, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Queen’s Jubilee Park, John West Way in the Town of Aurora.


The next meeting is scheduled for November 22, 2017 at 4 p.m.


The York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting adjourned at 5:02 p.m.
