Municipal Water Supply
York Region supplies water to its nine local municipalities. They collect, treat, store and distribute water to the Towns of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Whitchurch-Stouffville, the Township of King and the Cities of Markham and Vaughan.
York Region uses Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe and groundwater sources to supply water to the local municipalities. The local municipalities then deliver the water to their residential, commercial, industrial and institutional users, and collect money for the service. Some residents get their water supply from a private well.
