Families can bring their children to a Public Health dental clinic for their First Dental Visit and routine dental screening. If a need is identified at a screening visit, children from families in York Region who find the cost of dental services difficult to pay may also be eligible for preventive treatment.

Eligibility
First Dental Visit and routine Dental Screening are available to:
- Children 17 years of age or younger
Preventive dental services are available to children needing care, as identified through dental screening, and meet the following requirements:
- They are 17 years of age or younger
- The cost of dental services is difficult to pay
What is Offered?
First Dental Visit
The Canadian Dental Association recommends parents schedule their child’s first dental visit within six months of the eruption of the first tooth or by their first birthday.
Bring your child to a Public Health dental clinic to receive their first dental visit with a Registered Dental Hygienist, free of cost.

Preventive Dental Services
York Region Public Health Preventive Dental Clinics services include:
- Cleaning (scaling and polishing)
- Dental health and oral hygiene instruction
- Professionally applied topical fluoride
- Sealants (visible white plastic coatings that are placed in the deep grooves on the first and second permanent molar teeth to help prevent cavities)
Cost
There is no cost for eligible children.
How to Access
Call 1-877-464-9675, extension 74388, and speak with a dental program staff member to book a first dental visit, book a dental screening, or to see if your child qualifies for preventive dental care at one of our York Region Public Health dental clinics.
Parental consent and a medical history are needed. Youth who come to a dental clinic without a parent have to complete a medical history and may be able to consent for themselves.
