Water and Wastewater Construction Projects
York Region has scheduled projects for building water and wastewater structures and facilities over the next 10 years. This 10-Year Capital Construction Program has been designed to meet the needs of York Region’s rapidly growing population.

Clean Water and Wastewater Fund

York Region is anticipated to receive approximately $35 million in funding for several water and wastewater capital projects through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF).
The Clean Water and Wastewater Fund provides funding to projects that contribute to the rehabilitation of both water treatment and distribution infrastructure and existing wastewater and stormwater treatment systems; collection and conveyance infrastructure; and initiatives that improve asset management, system optimization, and planning for future upgrades to water and wastewater systems.

Henderson Sewage Pumping Station
York Region completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study to redirect wastewater from the Henderson Drive area in the Town of Aurora. The outcome is the construction of the new Henderson Sewage Pumping Station. This site will be shared with new emergency and transitional housing.

Aurora Yonge Street Feedermain Replacement and Rehabilitation
The Regional Municipality of York is rehabilitating and replacing sections of an aging water feedermain along Yonge Street from Murray Drive and Edward Street to Ridge Road, in the Town of Aurora.

What is happening?
York Region is rehabilitating and replacing a section of the Yonge Street Feedermain pipe along Yonge Street between Edward Street and Ridge Road in the Town of Aurora. The work is needed to extend the life of the feedermain and make sure critical water services are continually provided to the community.
What is a feedermain?
A feedermain is a pressurized watermain that transports and supplies water to the local municipal water systems.
When will the work happen?
February to summer/fall 2023.
Will work happen on weekends and overnight?
There is a possibility of overnight and weekend work. Advance notice will be provided. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Will York Region Transit service be changed?
York Region Transit service will be maintained; however, the boarding location of the northbound Yonge Street and Henderson Drive bus stop #9798 will shift slightly. Access to the fare machine at the Yonge Street and Henderson Drive bus stop will be maintained; York Region Transit bus stop #1736 on Yonge Street, south of Edward Street, will be temporarily closed and York Region Transit buses will service the next available bus stop #1738.

Will there be any water service interruptions?
Sections of the feedermain need to be replaced and to complete the work, water services may periodically be interrupted and/or a temporary water network may be required. Residents and businesses will be advised in advance of any water service interruptions.
Will Yonge Street be affected?
There will be temporary lane restrictions along Yonge Street, that will shift as the work progresses. Traffic control measures and signage including digital road signs will help with the movement of traffic.
There may be temporary intersection closures; residents will be notified in advance of the work, and updates will be posted on the digital road signs.
The sidewalks along Yonge Street between Ridge Road and Edward Street will be maintained; however, temporary sidewalks may be installed, as needed, and directional signage will be in place to help guide pedestrians.
Will Ridge Road be affected?
Access to Ridge Road will be temporarily limited to local residents and emergency services only; local residents will be able to access Ridge Road through Glensteeple Trail.
East Gwillimbury
Holland Landing Lagoon Carbon Sequestration Study
York Region and Lake Simcoe Regional Conservation Authority have begun a carbon sequestration study at the Holland Landing Lagoon site in the Town of East Gwillimbury. The study is looking to better understand the benefits of carbon sequestration in restored and naturally occurring prairie and grassland habitats.

The Regional Municipality of York is making improvements at the Sherwood Forest Pumping Station and Holland Landing Elevated Tank.

Georgina
Georgina Water Treatment Plant
York Region is working at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant, in the Town of Georgina. The work includes rehabilitation and modification of the water treatment plant and in-water geotechnical investigation in Lake Simcoe.
Keswick Sewage Pumping Station Upgrades and New Sanitary Forcemain Construction
York Region is upgrading the Keswick Sewage Pumping Station. As part of the upgrades, two new sanitary forcemains are being built, connecting the Keswick Sewage Pumping Station to the Keswick Water Resource Recovery Facility.

King
King City Sewage Pumping Station Upgrades

Nobleton Groundwater Resource Evaluation
The Regional Municipality of York is constructing a new groundwater production well at 12860 Highway 27 in the community of Nobleton. The new groundwater production well is needed to add water system capacity and support the groundwater supply system for the community.

York Region is building a new air management facility near the intersection of Yonge Street and King Road in the City of Richmond Hill.
Vaughan
Humber Sewage Pumping Station to Black Creek Sewage Pumping Station Sewage Forcemain Rehabilitation
York Region is rehabilitating the twin sewage forcemain and chambers between the Humber Pump Station and Black Creek Pump Station. The rehabilitation work will extend the life of the forcemain and chambers. Before the rehabilitation work begins, York Region needs to conduct multiple field studies.
