Emergency and Transitional Housing
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness or fleeing an abusive situation, an emergency housing facility can provide temporary housing and wraparound supports.
All individuals and couples experiencing homelessness in York Region that are seeking shelter are asked to contact the Transitional Shelter Intake Line at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140 or email @email. Families with children are asked to contact the Family Shelter at Leeder Place at 1-888-554-5525. Both phone lines are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You can also contact the Street Outreach Van at 1-866-553-4053 seven days a week from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Street Outreach Van (operated by Loft/Crosslinks) provides mobile services and supports for people experiencing homelessness at no cost.

New Emergency and Transitional Housing
Aurora
New emergency and transitional housing for men in Aurora
York Region is constructing a new men's emergency and transitional housing building to replace the existing aging emergency housing building, Porter Place, which is currently located in the Town of East Gwillimbury. The location of the proposed building is 14452 Yonge Street in the Town of Aurora. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2023 with occupancy by 2025. The new building will provide inclusive, flexible, and client-centred supports for men at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

East Gwillimbury
Passage House in the Town of East Gwillimbury
York Region is building a new low-rise, two-storey development with 18 transitional housing units on The Landing campus at 18838 Highway 11. Two emergency housing facilities are currently located on this site: Porter Place for men and Leeder Place for families. On-site construction has is underway, and substantial completion is anticipated for spring 2022.

The Bridge at Sutton Youth Services
The Bridge consists of eight new transitional housing units being built on a vacant portion of Housing York Inc.'s Sutton Youth Services site located at 20898 Dalton Road. With substantial completion expected in spring 2022, this rapid housing project is part of the Region’s strategy to expand affordable housing supply to help some of our most vulnerable residents, including those at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.

Newmarket Drop-by Program
If you or someone you know needs a safe place to get warm and access free personal care services, a meal for lunch and snacks, there is a Drop-by Program located in Lounge 1 at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex.
The Newmarket Drop-by Program is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on weekends and holidays. Please follow the signage for the Drop-by Program at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex located at 100 Eagle Street West in Newmarket. To access the Drop-by Program, enter at the southwest side of building.

Cold Weather Response Plan
York Region’s Cold Weather Response Plan provides a safe and welcoming space for residents experiencing homelessness during the cold weather season. The plan allows activities by service providers that safeguard residents experiencing homelessness from cold weather, alerts residents experiencing homelessness and the public that cold weather conditions are expected or currently exist, and supports residents experiencing homelessness to take appropriate precautions. COVID-19 Isolation Shelters
York Region offers two sites with accommodations to help residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. These sites are in place to keep residents safe and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Both facilities can also provide guests with connections to wraparound supports.
York Region Self-Isolation Shelter
People experiencing homelessness who are confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 and need a place that meets Public Health guidelines to self-isolate can call Blue Door Shelters at 905-898-1015 for referral process information.
York Region Transitional Shelter
Located at Kingbridge Centre, this facility provides individuals and couples experiencing homelessness with a secure place to self-isolate before transitioning into longer term or other temporary housing. Individuals can refer themselves by contacting the Transitional Shelter Intake Line at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140 or email @email. Families with children can contact the Family Shelter at Leeder Place (operated by Blue Door) at 1-888-554-5525. Both phone lines are answered 24 hours seven days a week.

Emergency Housing use in York Region
The Regional Municipality of York partners with the Federal Government along with other municipalities across Canada to collect emergency housing data through the Homelessness Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS).
