Lane Restrictions for Highway 7 Watermain Rehabilitation

In the City of Markham
Lane reductions will be in effect on Highway 7 and Ninth Line in the City of Markham to install a 600 mm diametre watermain. Work also includes installing valves, connecting the new pipe to the existing water system and making the system more reliable for local watermains in the City of Markham. The work is being led by York Region as part of the Highway 7 Watermain Rehabilitation Project.
Lane Reductions
- Highway 7 eastbound between Main Street Markham and Washington Street
Monday, May 11, 2026 at 7 a.m. to Friday, July 31, 2026 at 7 p.m. - Highway 7 eastbound between Windridge Drive and Ninth Line
Monday, June 1, 2026, at 7 a.m. to Thursday, December 31, 2026 at 7 p.m. - Ninth Line southbound between Church Street and Berczy Gate
Monday, June 1, 2026, at 7 a.m. to Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 7 p.m.
Stages of Work
Work will be completed in three stages, with one lane of traffic open in each direction at all times:
- Stage 1: Tunnelling work on Highway 7 between Main Street Markham and Washington Street
- Stage 2: Digging and installing the pipe along Highway 7 between Windridge Avenue and Ninth Line
- Stage 3: Installing the pipe along Ninth Line between Church Street and Berczy Gate
Impacts
Although no major service impacts are anticipated, residents and travellers may experience the following:
- There is no planned impact to water or wastewater services
- Access to all residents and businesses will be maintained
- Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the road throughout the project
- Lanes will temporarily reopen on Highway 7 for the Honda Indy event, being held on August 14 to 16, 2026
