Each summer, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, the York Small Business Enterprise Centre administers its Summer Company program. 

Summer Company helps support young entrepreneurs in Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Newmarket, and Whitchurch-Stouffville start or grow their business and develop skills.

What you need to know before you apply

To be eligible to apply for Summer Company support, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Attend high school, college or university
  2. Live in Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Newmarket or Stouffville
  3. Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  4. Between the age of 15 to 29 as of April 30, 2026
  5. Are not already running a business
  6. Plan to start a new business in the summer in Ontario
  7. Plan to start the business as a sole proprietorship or corporation with you as the major shareholder (not a partnership)
  8. Are not working at another job or going to school for more than 12 hours a week during the program period in the summer
  9. Must be a student returning to school in the fall of 2026 (full-time, part-time, homeschooling, e-learning, distance learning, apprenticeships, trade schools, etc.)
  10. Have not received a previous Summer Company grant

2. Are you a student returning to school in the fall of 2026?
3. Are you a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Ontario?
4. Are you starting a new business?
5. Are you already running a business?
6. Do you plan to operate your Summer Company business in Ontario?
7. Have you received a previous Summer Company award?
8. Will you be employed elsewhere working or attending school more than 12 hours per week during the duration of the program?
9. Are you planning to operate your Summer Company business as a partnership?
10. Do you live in Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Newmarket, or Stouffville?
