Honouring the strength and contributions of older adults in York Region
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am pleased to recognize June 2026 as Seniors Month and to celebrate the wisdom, experience and contributions of older adults across our communities.
Older adults are central to the story of York Region. They are mentors, volunteers, neighbours, caregivers, leaders and friends. Their contributions have helped build the strong, caring, safe communities we value today and their participation continues to shape the future.
York Region is home to a growing and diverse population of older adults. Many are living longer, healthier and more active lives. At the same time, we recognize that some seniors require additional support to remain independent and connected. Through the York Region Plan to Support Seniors, we are focused on helping older adults age with dignity, choice and access to the services they need.
This work includes improving coordination across health and community services, strengthening access to programs such as long-term care, community supports and transit and supporting caregivers who play a critical role in our system of care.
Seniors Month is also a reminder of the importance of connection. Simple acts such as a phone call, a visit or a kind gesture can help reduce isolation and strengthen community ties.
On behalf of Regional Council and the 1.3 million residents who call our communities home, I extend my sincere thanks to all older adults in York Region. Your contributions continue to strengthen our communities every day.
