TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR BATTERIES AND DISPOSE SAFELY
All batteries are hazardous. They contain combustible, flammable materials and must never go in the garbage or recycling.
Batteries can get crushed or overheated in garbage and recycling trucks, or at waste depots. When this happens they can ignite, causing fires and putting people at risk.
Batteries should be dropped off at York Region waste depots or participating battery collection sites, often located at community centres and retailers. To prevent potential sparking and the risk of fire, cover the ends of used batteries with electrical, duct or packing tape and store them in a plastic bag.
Disposing your batteries properly protects everyone’s safety and the environment.
