Georgina Water Treatment Plant: November 2026 Construction Update
York Region is upgrading the Georgina Water Treatment Plant to continue providing safe, reliable drinking water to Georgina residents and the community, while reducing the risk of future water service interruptions.
We recognize that construction is disruptive and thank the community for their patience while this important infrastructure work is completed.
Work Completed
Significant project milestones have been completed including major marine construction activities in Lake Simcoe and microtunneling work along Kennedy Road.
Construction Look Ahead
Work planned for the remainder of the year:
- Completing the remaining marine work in Lake Simcoe, including protecting underwater pipes with stones and installation of the underwater mussel control system. Night work will continue through mid-December to finish this work
- Continuing interior and exterior construction work at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant and the Low Lift Pumping Station
- Installing and connecting the pipes between the Georgina Water Treatment Plant, the Low Lift Pumping Station and Willow Wharf Park
- Initiating site works and base layer paving at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant
- Installing stormwater management system along Kennedy Road
- Finishing supporting work including electrical upgrades, roof repairs, fencing and gate installation
Residents and travellers may notice continued truck traffic on Kennedy Road and around Willow Wharf Park. The temporary road closure on Kennedy Road, between Fawn Lane and Lake Drive East will remain, with local access only. Activities to reduce dust, enhance road cleaning and monitor noise and vibration are ongoing.
We appreciate the community’s patience while we complete this important work. If you have concerns that construction related to the Georgina Water Treatment Plant upgrades could be impacting you, please submit your information at york.ca/ReportAProblem.
