Notice of Tree Removal for Georgina Water Treatment Plant upgrades
York Region is making improvements to the Georgina Water Treatment Plant at 27135 Kennedy Road in the Town of Georgina to continue providing reliable and high-quality water services to the community. We are upgrading the Water Treatment Plant and the Pumping Station and replacing mussel control piping system in Lake Simcoe.
Unfortunately, it is necessary to remove trees to accommodate construction. Work includes microtunneling along Kennedy Road from Willow Wharf Park to the Georgina Water Treatment Plant, work in Lake Simcoe, and at the Pumping Station. As a nearby resident, you will see workers removing the trees this spring.
Tree removal will start in March 2026. Tree removals take place in March before birds make their nests, ensuring they aren’t disturbed. Tree planting will take place in Spring 2027.
Tree removal work has been planned under the guidance of a certified arborist. A variety of new trees will be planted.
Trees will be removed at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant, Pumping Station and Willow Wharf Park. A diagram showing the trees that will be removed in Willow Wharf Park will be available soon on york.ca/WaterConstruction or by requesting a copy.
Work is being completed in partnership with the Town of Georgina and complies with all local bylaws. All necessary permits have been obtained.
As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather.
